Writing Prompt 6/300: Write about something presently in your life that is “worth it.”
It would be all to easy to say that my kid is totally worth it. Obviously every second with him is precious. But when I really think about the question of telling a story about something that is quote-unquote worth it, I have to think about what that means to me.
Worth it meaning worth the effort, worth the pain, worth the losses over the wins. Something you had to give up something for.
I run my own business, something that I am very proud of. It isn’t something that is always easy, especially when it comes to getting a bank to recognize that you dont get a regular paycheck.
Running my own business gives me a lot of flexibility to do the projects I want to do and to spend more time with my kiddo.
So I’ll say it was “worth it” when a mortgage specialist said to us, with a distinct amount of judgement in her voice and a side tilt to her head that she’d have to put me down as a “homemaker” because they don’t understand my unpredictable income.
I’m totally fine with my non-linear path, the extra time it has afforded me to stay home and be with my babe as he grows and develops but I still don’t appreciate the tone that being a homemaker is somehow a lesser choice.
But at the end of the day it is “worth it” to get the paperwork done.
